Transition Town Wimbledon Closes

Transition Town Wimbledon was set up in 2009 with the help of Sustainable Merton. Over the last few years, Transition Town Wimbledon has run two community gardens and held events ranging from draught-proofing workshops and screening films, to craft workshops and Upcycling Wimbledon. It has set up Green Coffee, Abundance Wimbledon, networked with lots of people and groups and highlighted what is happening in the area.

In the last year or so, TTW have struggled to find people to help with organising some of their events and groups and, as a result, the community gardens, the school garden and the recycled jewellery-making group have all closed. So that attention can be focused on projects that are thriving, TTW will cease operations as of now (November 2013). Sustainable Merton will, however, continue to support projects such as Green Coffee, Abundance, the Energy Group and Bag-Making.

Sustainable Merton has now introduced a monthly newsletter, similar to the TTW newsletter and covering many of the same stories. Therefore, to keep those of you who previously received the TTW newsletter in touch with local green activities, we will be sending you ours (if you don’t receive it already). You can then choose whether you are happy to receive further issues. If you are not happy with this arrangement, please just respond saying so, thank you.

Transition groups do sometimes close and new ones open up, so if you want to start a new group in the area, please contact sustainablemerton@googlemail. com and we will pass your details on to those who are able to support you in doing so.

Sustainable Merton would also like to congratulate the Transition Town Wimbledon Organising Committee and volunteers for their success, achievements and for many memorable occasions!
